As a tattoo artist, inspiration is everywhere, overtime as with any artist they fall into their niche. Of course this can be a great thing, being exceptional in a specific area certainly has its benefits for an artist. To find where your passion lives is a beautiful thing, for many tattoo artists they are known for their art style, attracting people with similar tastes.

A passion for a particular style is never a bad thing, but if you're looking to expand your horizons and master other areas of your profession, follow along to learn all about the top trending tattoo styles. Our goal is to help you grow as an artist and to help your business along the way.

Tattoo Styles

From realism to cartoons and everything in between, the top trends we’ve seen popping up can hopefully inspire you to create your own masterpiece. Take a look at some tattoo styles rising in popularity in 2023.

Neo-Traditional

The neo-traditional style brings a wide range of styles together, with influences from old style Japanese art to glimpses of Victorian, Egyptian and even African cultures. We see influence from many cultures as each artist has their own style, the practice utilizes black outlines to hold color. This artwork provides dramatic detail, focused autumn colors, depth of image, and will allow you to bring an extravagant piece to life.

Micro-realism

The micro-realism style offers a vast range of opportunities. With the goal to bring realism to your art, detail is key. Oftentimes these are small portraits of animals or people but almost anything can be created with this art style. While most styles follow a bold outline in their creation, micro realism is about displaying an animal or object how we see it. Providing details and finding the appropriate size can be difficult, go too small and there’s no room for detail, the goal is to show the true beauty. Proper contrast and precision is key in creating a timeless piece, it’s definitely a challenge but we hope that it’s just what you’re looking for.

Anime and Video Game

With Anime and Video Game culture on the rise with the younger generation it’s a great market to tap into. Although the style is generally newer we’ve seen traces of these types of tattoos forever. From pop culture to cartoons these two share a lot of similarities. Most anime and video game tattoos bring a Japanese art style to life but the two share their vibrant colors and show off shared interests.

Minimalism

Minimalist tattoos are great, often small in size but symbolic in nature. A minimalist tattoo consists of a small color palette if not just black and they bring life to a design with their basic shape, no need to go overboard here, the less the better. A great start for someone who is getting their first tattoo, or even for someone looking to match their minimalist style.

Temporary

For the people that havent gotten into tattoos just yet, temporary tattoos are perfect for them. Whether you’re skeptical about the permanence of your tattoo or just want to see how the art will look on you, temporary tattoos can provide you just what you need. Although these may not be as fun for a tattoo artist it can be a good marketing tool to get uncertain customers through the door.

Tribal

A tribal design carries elements of various cultures around the world, with inspiration from the Aztecs, Maoris, and many more. These tattoos have a unique design that has developed in America since the 80’s. Often from tradition the positioning of the tattoo is designed for the chest, shoulder, or thighs. These tattoos draw attention from people looking for that connection to their culture and are sure to bring in a large variety of people.

Passion

At the end of the day you want to design your tattoos with passion. Art is an expression of yourself but that doesn't have to limit your style, expand and grow, or even create your own style with some inspiration from other styles and artists around the world. TattooPro would love to see you grow and become the best you can be.
